Signal Hill – Mount Magazine State Park, Arkansas

Mount Magazine, a flat-topped plateau rimmed by precipitous cliffs, harbors two distinct peaks – Mossback Ridge (2,700ft) and the highest point in Arkansas, Signal Hill (2,753ft).

Signal Hill, reached along a 1.4 mile loop trail, is an easy hike for anyone who wants to lay claim to bagging a state highpoint – the trail to the summit is a gentle forest walk that loops around the north and east slopes of the mountain, culminating in the tree-lined summit.

The summit of Signal Hill, while lacking in sweeping views, is home to the Highpoint Monument - a 400 square foot stone map of Arkansas that depicts the different types of rock found within the state’s six natural divisions.

There is also a summit register and a large sign marking the highpoint – the perfect backdrop for that photo op that proves you climbed the highest peak in not only Arkansas, but the Ozark Plateau as well.
