Mina Sauk Falls Trail – Taum Sauk Mountain State Park , Missouri

Mina Sauk Falls Trail, a 2.9 mile loop trail located in Taum Sauk Mountain State Park, provides hikers with access to two of Missouri’s tallest geologic features — Taum Sauk Mountain, the state highpoint, and Mina Sauk Falls, the highest waterfall in the state.

From the parking area, follow the paved, accessible trail a short distance, (approximately 0.2-mile) to the state highpoint — here you will find a red granite plaque marking the location of Taum Sauk Mountain. The highpoint, rising 1,772 feet above sea level, sits atop an elongated ridge in the Saint Francois Mountains rather than on an actual peak, so don’t expect dramatic views from the top.

Dramatic vistas do await, however, for those that continue hiking — beyond the highpoint, the Mina Sauk Falls Trail becomes a rugged, rocky adventure that leads to spectacular views of the St. Francois Mountains and passes by the brink of Mina Sauk Falls.

Mina Sauk Falls, a 132 foot cascade, is the tallest waterfall in Missouri — tumbling over a series of ledges into Taum Sauk Creek, this seasonal falls is best experienced in the spring or summer after a good rain.
